Climbing the Passo della Consuma in the early morning of a fall, some years ago, I was delighted by the view over the Val d’Arno. The mist still clinged to the shallow depressions and the castles and farms on top of the hills emerged like vessels in a wavy ocean. Arezzo was barely visible in the distance, where the Val d’Arno spreads into flatter grounds. The rising slopes in the background delimits the Tuscan border of the great forest of the National Park of the Foreste Casentinesi and Monte Falterona.
